Eastway is the largest, private, not-for-profit provider of mental health, substance abuse, housing, employment, and educational services in the Miami Valley area. The Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio serves the General Division of the Common Pleas Courts in Allen, Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Mercer, Montgomery, and Shelby Counties. We also serve the local municipal and county courts; the Juvenile Division of the Common Pleas Court in Allen, Auglaize, Darke, Greene, Logan, Mercer, and Shelby Counties; and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

The evaluations performed typically pertain to the matters of Competency to Stand Trial; Mental Condition at the Time of the Offense(s) charged; Candidacy for Probation, Advisability of Treatment; and Mitigation of Sentence. We also offer opinions regarding treatment needs and readiness for discharge to the community for individuals who are either hospitalized post-Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity finding or adjudicated Incompetent to Stand Trial-Unrestorable and retained under the Court’s jurisdiction. Moreover, evaluations pertaining to an acquittee/defendant’s appropriateness for continued community-based treatment are performed.

In addition, the Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio performs involuntary civil commitment evaluations for hearings held in the Probate Division of the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. We also employ the Forensic Monitor for Allen, Auglaize, Clark, Greene, Hardin, Madison, Mercer, Paulding, Preble, Putnam, and Van Wert Counties, and we provide outpatient competency restoration services for defendants who have been charged with a non-violent misdemeanor-level offense for whom outpatient treatment is appropriate. Finally, the Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio is a training site for doctoral level clinical psychology students who are interested in pursuing a career in forensic psychology.
