Forensic Evaluation Service Center

The evaluations performed typically pertain to the matters of Competency to Stand Trial; Mental Condition at the Time of the Offense(s) charged; Candidacy for Probation, Advisability of Treatment; and Mitigation of Sentence. We also offer opinions regarding treatment needs and readiness for discharge to the community for individuals who are either hospitalized post-not Guilty by Reason of Insanity finding or adjudicated Incompetent to Stand Trial-Unrestorable and retained under the Court’s jurisdiction. We also offer Intervention in Lieu of Conviction evaluations for treatment readiness.

In addition, the FESC performs guardianship evaluations for the Probate Division of the Butler County Common Pleas Court. We provide outpatient competency restoration services for defendants who have been charged with a criminal offense and for whom outpatient treatment is appropriate. Finally, the Forensic Evaluation Service Center is a training site for doctoral-level clinical psychology students who are interested in pursuing a career in forensic psychology.
